The 2018 Untold Stories event was run by Sanchita Balachandran, project director, in collaboration with the 2018 project assistants Julianna Ly and LaStarsha McGarity.
Julianna Ly is a first-year fellow in the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation specializing in paintings conservation. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 2015 with BA degrees in Art Conservation and Art History. Julianna recently served as a teaching assistant under Dr. Joyce Hill Stoner working with four African American students from historically black colleges and universities on the conservation of a five-foot diorama from Tuskegee University. Julianna has continuously participated in diversity initiatives and feels passionate about working towards increasing diversity and inclusion within the field.
LaStarsha McGarity is currently a 2nd-year Objects Conservation Fellow in the Garman Art Conservation Department at Buffalo State College. She graduated from Texas Southern University, a Historically Black College or University, in Third Ward Houston. She is completing her master’s thesis on the research and treatment of a historic diorama in the collection of the Legacy Museum at Tuskegee University. She hopes to uncover and uplift diverse voices and histories throughout her conservation career.
